His debut novel Lucky Wander Boy was themed around video games and he has since been linked with the screen adaptations of various science fiction and fantasy stories, in particular his collaboration with David Benioff as screenwriters and executive producers of Game of Thrones, the HBO adaptation of George R. R. Martin's series of books. He has also expressed an interest in writing for video games.
