Jeffrey C. Hall is an American geneticist and chronobiologist. He got his Ph.D. in genetics in 1971 at University of Washington, and moved on to a faculty position at Brandeis University in 1974.In 1984 the team of Hall and Michael Rosbash cloned the Period gene in Drosophila melanogaster which can control the animal's biological rhythms. They also discovered that the mRNA and protein encoded by this gene show circadian oscillations.
