Mary Lucier is an American artist who has worked in many mediums including sculpture, photography, and performance. Concentrating primarily on video and installation since 1973, she has produced numerous multiple- and single-channel pieces. Her work has been shown internationally in museums, galleries, alternative spaces and festivals and is represented in many public and private collections including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Modern Art, NY, ZKM Museum fur Neue Kunst in Karlsruhe, Germany, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid, and the Milwaukee Art Museum in Milwaukee, WI. In the past 30 years, Lucier has been the recipient of grants, awards, and commissions from public and private foundations including Creative Capital, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Guggenheim Foundation, the American Film Institute, the Jerome Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts, Anonymous Was A Woman, and the Nancy Graves Foundation. In 2007 she received the Skowhegan Medal for Video for outstanding work in the field. In 2010 she won a United States Artists Fellow award.
