Lakshminarayanan Mahadevan

Lakshminarayanan Mahadevan is an Indian American mathematician and scientist, and Lola England de Valpine Professor of Applied Mathematics, Organismic and Evolutionary Biology and Physics at Harvard University. His work centers around using mathematics to understand the organization of matter in space and time, particularly at the scale observable by the unaided senses. He graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, and then received an M.S from the University of Texas at Austin, and an M.S. and Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1995. He has previously taught at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and was subsequently a Professorial Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge, University of Cambridge, and the Schlumberger Professor of Complex Physical Systems in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics there, and is currently a Visiting Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oxford.
