Grace Abbott -- social reformer and social worker.
Hartley Burr Alexander -- anthropologist, poet, philosopher, educator, and authority on North American Indian mythology.
Bess Streeter Aldrich -- author of the early 1900s who lived in Elmwood, Nebraska.
Charles Edwin Bessey -- botanist and chancellor of the University of Nebraska.
William Jennings Bryan -- U.S. Secretary of State, Congressman from Nebraska, and three-time Democratic candidate for President of the United States.
Willa Cather -- author who grew up in Nebraska and wrote about it.
William Frederick Cody, famous as "Buffalo Bill" -- soldier, buffalo hunter, Army scout, actor, rancher, and showman of the West.
Edward Creighton -- telegraph pioneer and banker.
Loren Eisley -- anthropologist, poet, and philosopher of science.
Edward J. Flanagan -- founder of Boys Town.
Robert W. Furnas -- newspaperman, soldier, historian, and politician.
Nathan J. Gold -- businessman, civic leader, philanthropist, and Nebraska booster.
Dwight Palmer Griswold -- banker, publisher, and politician.
Gilbert M. Hitchcock -- founder of the Omaha World-Herald and politician.
