Vivian Vande Velde is an American authorwho writes books primarily aimed at children and young adults. She began writing at age 28, the same year her daughter was born, and has been publishing relatively consistently since. She currently resides in Rochester, New York. She is involved in multiple circles/groups of children/young adult writers in the Rochester area, which include authors such as Bruce Coville and Cynthia DeFelice. Her novels and short story collections usually contain elements of horror, fantasy, and humor. Her book Never Trust a Dead Man received the 2000 Edgar Award for Best Young Adult Novel. She says that she really likes to write for children. She likes to do school talks to children. She does many book conventions and also gives writing classes. One of her short stories was added to Gothic! Ten Original Dark Tales.
