She has also performed on television series such as Ghost Whisperer and on Broadway, including performing in the original production of Gypsy. She played the wife of Jack Nicholson in Alexander Payne's film About Schmidt, and the wife of Bruce Dern in Payne's Nebraska, which premiered at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival and for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
