Emil Jannings was a Swiss-born German/Austrian and American actor. He was the first person to be presented with an Oscar when he was honored with the first Academy Award for Best Actor, at the 1929 ceremony. Best known for his collaborations with F. W. Murnau and Josef von Sternberg, Jannings later starred in a number of Nazi propaganda films.
