Ben Wedeman is an American journalist. He is currently CNN’s senior international correspondent, based in Rome, Italy since November 2012.
Previously, Wedeman was based in Cairo, Egypt, where he led CNN's coverage of the uprising against then-President Hosni Mubarak as well as the wider unrest in the Middle East. Before the Cairo posting, Prior to that, he was CNN's Amman, Jordan, Bureau chief.
Bedeman was originally hired by CNN as a local Jordanian employee. The job title was "fixer/producer/sound technician"; one of his duties was to help reporting staff get through checkpoints, since he is fluent in multiple dialects of Arabic and familiar with the culture.
