Joshua Sweeney is an American gold medal sledge hockey player and Purple Heart recipient who competed in 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi, Russia. In 2009 he lost his leg while serving his patrol duty in Nowzad, Afghanistan as a sergeant of the United States Marine Corps. Five years later he joined Paralympic sledge hockey team and lost 2-1 to the Russians. Couple of days later, he scored the only goal with which his team won a gold medal in a final against the same country. Prior to joining the team he played ice hockey in Ironwood High School. A native of Arizona, he is married and moving to Hillsboro, Oregon, in 2014.
