Magic Light Pictures is a London based company which produces independent films and television, and manages the children’s brand, The Gruffalo. It was created in 2003 by producers Martin Pope and Michael Rose.
Their recent productions include two half hour animation specials based on Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s best selling books: The Gruffalo has won over 15 awards including the Prix Jeunesse 2010, and been nominated for an Academy Award, a BAFTA and the Cartoon D’Or.The Gruffalo's Child premiered on BBC1 at Christmas 2011.
Their feature films include the Oscar nominated Chico & Rita, an animated feature directed by Javier Mariscal, Fernando Trueba and Tono Errando, winner of the European Film Award for Animated Feature Film 2011; Sparkle starring Bob Hoskins, Lesley Manville and Stockard Channing and Wild Target, a comedy thriller starring Bill Nighy, Emily Blunt, Rupert Grint and Rupert Everett. Magic Light Pictures also recently completed production on natural history feature documentary One Life which topped the Japanese box office on its opening weekend.
