Razor & Tie is a New York-based corporation founded in 1990 by Cliff Chenfeld and Craig Balsam. The company encompasses a record label with major label distribution, a home video company, a media buying company, a music publishing business, a marketing, promotion and sales team, and a direct marketing operation.
Early in their existence, the label concentrated on "greatest hits" compilations by otherwise unanthologized artists. Razor & Tie now represents musicians producing music in folk, dance, metal, pop, rock, soul and world genres. Razor & Tie is perhaps best known for its Kidz Bop compilations, which take the latest pop hits and rework them as sung by children. Other products include videos such as the Sweating in the Spirit workout series and various DVD reincarnations of the For Dummies series.
