Steve Armitage

Profession Sports commentator
Steve Armitage is an English-born Canadian sports reporter for CBC Sports. He has covered such events as Hockey Night in Canada, the Canadian Football League and Grey Cup, the Olympics, and the World Cup of Football. Armitage attended Saint Mary's University, Halifax where he played football quarterback. He grew up in Victoria, B.C. and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Armitage won the 1982 ACTRA Foster Hewitt Award for Excellence in Sports Broadcasting and he was nominated for a Gemini Award in 1998 for his coverage of speed skating at the Winter Olympics. In 2006 he was inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame. Armitage was one of the two play-by-play announcers announcing for CBC Sports in the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada. Paul Dolan was the analyst alongside Armitage. He called swimming at the 2008 Summer Olympics for CBC.
