Michael W. Young

Michael W. Young is an American geneticist and chronobiologist. He got his Ph.D. in genetics in 1971 at University of Texas at Austin, and moved on to a faculty position at Rockefeller University in 1978, later became its vice president for academic affairs. In 1984 his team cloned the Period gene in Drosophila melanogaster which can control the animal's biological rhythms. Later he studied some more genes which involved in the clock mechanism. He is 2011 recipient of Louisa Gross Horwitz Prize from Columbia University.
