Alan Devlin was an Irish actor.
He was born in Dublin, the son of a jazz musician. He was raised in Booterstown and studied in Mount Merrion. His acting career began with the New Irish Players in Killarney. He starred in many TV shows such as Ballykissangel and also starred alongside many internationally recognized movie-stars in many big Hollywood productions as well as independent productions and on stage in his beloved theatre. He is best known for his roles in Chekhov's The Seagull and Eugene O'Neill's A Moon for the Misbegotten. He won an Olivier Award for his role in the latter.
Alan was loved by everybody who knew him and was always a humble honest and funny gentleman, whether he was talking to Hollywood royalty or a street drinker. He understood & enjoyed talking to both but always had time and a kind word for the latter as Alan himself had bravely battled with alcoholism for many years, having experienced homelessness at his most difficult time. He died peacefully in Dalkey in 2011 surrounded by loved ones & friends but thanks to his incredible list of film credits he will never be forgotten.
