Edward Boyd was a Scottish writer best known for his television and radio work.
Boyd was born in Stevenston in North Ayrshire. He worked with the Glasgow Unity Theatre in the 1940s.
Later he moved into radio & TV. In the 1960s he created series such as The Odd Man and The Corridor People for Granada TV, and wrote for a number of serials including Z-Cars on the BBC.
In the 1970s he wrote the BBC series The View From Daniel Pike starring Scottish actor Roddy McMillan as a dour private detective.
In 1986 he wrote the play Castles in Spain which was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in 1987.
He died in 1989.
A collection of Boyd's papers are held by Glasgow University.
Edward Boyd married 3 times.
Better known as Eddie, Boyd was survived by his daughters Susan and Rachel. Susan Boyd was a talented scriptwriter who died in 2004. Rachel Boyd is an award-winning writer and documentary maker currently working in the UK.
