Jarkko Hietaniemi is a Finnish Perl programmer best known as the creator and "master librarian" of CPAN. Otherwise, he has originated several Perl modules, and coauthored the book "Mastering Algorithms with Perl. He has been the maintainer of perl 5.7.x that lead into perl-5.8.0 5.8.1, but later stepped down from maintaining the perl 5.8.x branch.
As measured by numbers of commits, Jarkko Hietaniemi is responsible for nearly a quarter of the core perl code-base; perl's support for Unicode is primarily due to his work on perl version 5.8. Jarkko worked for the Nokia Research Center, and currently for Google
