James Crichton VC was an Irish-born soldier who served with the British Army during the Second Boer War. He later emigrated to New Zealand and, following the outbreak of the First World War, joined the New Zealand Military Forces. He was a recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces, for his actions during the Hundred Days Offensive.
