Rajat Sharma

Rajat Sharma is Chairman and Editor-in Chief of India TV, a Hindi News channel in India. In 1995, he created history by launching India’s first private television news bulletin. Though Rajat Sharma is widely applauded for being a pioneer in TV news and for his style of interviewing which sets him apart from others, he has also been severely criticised for the content of the news stories run on his channel. Harinder Baweja, a prominent and award winning journalist, said, "his own news channel occupies the top rung on the TRP ladder, using superstition, celebrity, sleaze and a host of other debatable tricks to get there". Mr Sharma defended his channel on the interview with Ms Baweja and claimed that they do not run stories on superstition anymore and that they had been forced to modify their programming, to what they felt was popular amongst the audience, due to poor financial condition of their business. Mr Sharma is one of the most well known alumni of Shri Ram College of Commerce, which is considered to be the best college for studies in business, economics and commerce in India. Personal story Rajat Sharma, chairman, Independent News Service and editor-in-chief, India TV, says about the core turning points of his career. My childhood was about seven brothers, an ailing mother, father and sister - living in a 10 x 10 room in old Delhi, without any water and electricity. I went to a municipality school. Studying at night meant sitting under the lamp post at a nearby railway station. Yet, I have fond memories of my childhood.
