C. Barry Carter is the head of Chemical, Materials & Biomolecular Engineering in the School of Engineering at the University of Connecticut. He was previously a professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at the University of Minnesota and Cornell University. He is an author of nearly 500 peer-reviewed publications and two textbooks, Ceramic Materials: Science and Engineering with M. Grant Norton and Transmission Electron Microscopy: A Textbook for Materials Science with David Williams.
He is a fellow of the Materials Research Society, the Microscopy Society of America and the American Ceramic Society. In 2010 he was elected to the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Materials Science and formerly served in the same role for the Microscopy and Microanalysis.
