Gary Harris Harris played his high school basketball in Fishers, Indiana at Hamilton Southeastern High School. His mother is Joy Holmes-Harris, a former Purdue and Detroit Shock player. In the first sectional game of his senior year, Gary Harris knocked down two free throws to tie the game at 83 with 10 seconds left, and then shot a game-winning buzzerbeater three pointer from almost half of the court to win the game 83-86 against North Central.
Gary Harris was awarded the Big Ten freshman player of the year in 2013. He has decided to stay at Michigan State for his sophomore year. On February 13, he was named one of the 30 finalists for Naismith College Player of the Year.
