Mads Nissen is a Danish documentary photographer.
Nissen completed his studies at the Danish School of Journalism in Kopenhagen. From 2004 to 2006 he worked as a staff photographer for the Danish newspaper Politiken, and subsequently as a freelance photojournalist for newspapers such as Newsweek, TIME, Der Spiegel, Stern or Sunday Times. He has documented the food crisis in Niger, overpopulation in the Philippines, and the Amazon rainforest. Nissen is the recipient of numerous awards, such as Danish Press Photo of the Year in 2007 und 2010, a World Press Photo Award in 2011 and the Manuel Rivera-Ortiz Foundation Photography Grant in 2011.
