Major-General Thomas de Courcy Hamilton VC was a Scottish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Joining the British Army as an ensign in the 90th Regiment of Foot in 1842, he exchanged into the 68th Regiment of Foot in 1848.
